On January 8, 1986 The University of Central Oklahoma's "Civilized Tribe Dixieland Band" boarded a plane bound for Los Angeles in hopes of doing what no other Dixieland Band had ever done before - capture the title of Southern Comfort National Collegiate Dixieland Champions for a second time. Three days later they did just that! The competition was held annually in conjunction with the convention of The National Association of Jazz Educators (NAJE). The first time the "Tribe" won this prestigious title was in 1983! Dr Kent Kidwell, Jeff Kidwell, Lee Rucker, and several other talented alumni from The University of Central Oklahoma have been largely responsible for keeping the tradition of this great band going strong now for 20 years! The Civilized Tribe performs for any kind of event where festive party music is desired!
We are currently booking the band in two possible combinations:
as a 5 piece band:
trumpet, trombone, clarinet/saxophone, banjo, tuba
or
as a 6 piece band:
trumpet, trombone, clarinet/sax, banjo, tuba, drums
